Monastery of St. Nicholas

Located 10 minutes from the center of Mustafapaşa, the Monastery of St. Nicholas was an important religious center during the 19th century when the region was home to a significant Greek population. After the exchange of populations following World War I, the monastery was abandoned to its fate and, during this time, experienced severe damage, being reopened in 2012 following an extensive renovation. The courtyard of the monastery is entered through two adjoining rounded arches. The walls are adorned with monumental paintings. Inside the monastery are four wings dedicated to Saint Nicholas, Saint Barbara, Saint Savvas and Saint Minas, as well as a fifth wing containing a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
